human nurture

 by Ryan Calais Cameron

A Theatre Centre and Sheffield Theatres co-production

We are thrilled to announce that our February and March 2022 live schools tour of Human Nurture by Ryan Calais Cameron is now open for booking. We are touring Human Nurture in co-production with Sheffield Theatres, a powerhouse of theatre making to bring this thrilling new play to schools across the country.

"I don’t agree with everything they say, but we do have a lot in common nowadays, anyway I can’t be racist my best friend is Black.”

Human Nurture is a new play written by Ryan Calais Cameron and directed by Rob Watt. Suitable for ages 14+, Human Nurture is full of colour, noise, and a lot of dynamite. Nothingʼs off-limits, from innocent primary school humiliations to race, privilege, allyship and male vulnerability.

Human Nurture has been commissioned specifically to speak to our times, and developed through Theatre Centreʼs acclaimed Future Makers programme. Ryan has worked with young people and educators in schools and colleges across England to ensure the world of Human Nurture is rooted in the lived experience of young people today.

Ryan's writing credits include the award-winning QUEENS OF SHEBA (2018 Edinburgh Untapped Award) which he co-wrote with Jessica Hagan and which sold out at Edinburgh, on national tour, at BAC and New Diorama Theatre and which will be revived again at Soho Theatre in August 2021; TYPICAL which sold out its run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019 and its transfer to Soho Theatre Upstairs; THE TIDE which Ryan co-created with choreographer Jessica Hackett for Talawa, which premiered at Greenwich and Dockland International Festival 2019 and will be revived for the same festival in 2021. Ryan is currently under commission to the Royal Court and Soho Theatre and he is also developing original projects for television.
